The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has said that the military will intensify efforts to achieve lasting peace in Nigeria, with 2025 being a crucial year for national security.

The CDS said this when he addressed journalists on Christmas Day after visiting patients at the Defence Headquarters Medical Centre as part of a charity event.

The visit which doubled as a celebration of his birthday, was characterized by a show of empathy.

General Musa distributed gifts to patients and commended the medical staff for their commitment and hard work.

He commended the military’s notable accomplishments in 2024, particularly in the fight against terrorism and insecurity nationwide.

The Defence Chief said that this progress underscored the military’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerian citizens.

He said: “I think since we started to where we are today, there is a remarkable improvement in the security situation, and we are going to take that further. Next year will be defining, as we aim to ensure Nigeria remains peaceful”.

He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among Nigerians in achieving sustainable peace.

General Musa said: “Peace isn’t automatic, but with collective cooperation, prayers, and actionable support from Nigerians, we can make it happen. God is with us always”.

The Chief of Defence Staff also issued a stern warning, to individuals who engage in trade with terrorists and bandits.

He emphasized that such collaborations posed a significant threat to human life, and endangered the safety of many.

The CDS assured that the military would continue to be dedicated to its personnel’s well-being.

He said that the new Defence Headquarters hospital, slated for completion in 2025, will provide improved medical care for Armed Forces members and their families.

He prayed for the recovery of ailing soldiers and their loved ones, and reiterated his commitment to achieving a peaceful and secure Nigeria for all.
