A member of the Presidential Campaign Team, PCT and Convener of the Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has charged Benue people to shun divisive and tribal politics for the state to take its rightful place at the national table where development issues are discussed.
Showunmi, whose group is working for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, gave the charge during a Renewed Hope media parley with journalists held yesterday in Makurdi.
He said the Alternative Movement was in Benue to feel the pulse of the people, gauge their excitement and assess the level of support President Tinubu enjoys in the state.
According to him, he was satisfied with what he saw and heard.
“What we have seen so far is that Benue people have given strong backing to Mr. President. They are saying, Mr. President, you should keep doing more. They are happy with the Governor and President Tinubu for appointing a son of the soil to the exalted office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). They are appreciative of the federal roads intervention in Benue and the prompt payment of salaries to civil servants and pensioners,” Showunmi said.
He added that during his interaction with residents, including non-indigenes, all segments of people living in the state expressed satisfaction with the level of development under President Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
“They promised to double their votes for the President in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Showunmi appealed to journalists to support the government by projecting the positive efforts of the Tinubu administration, noting that there are already signs of better things happening.
He expressed optimism that things will continue to improve under the Tinubu administration and advised the people to criticize constructively as provided for in a democracy.
