The Nigeria Customs Service, in furtherance of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and community development, has commissioned a rehabilitated healthcare facility in Modakeke, Osun State, to improve access to basic healthcare services and promote the well-being of residents.

    Abdulmalik Abiodun Akintola, the
    Assistant Superintendent of Customs,
    Command Public Relations Officer
Oyo/Osun Area Command disclosed this in a statement signed on Saturday.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Saturday, 24 October 2026, was performed on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, by the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Wale Moses Adewole.

Speaking at the event, the CGC, through his representative, emphasised the importance of accessible and quality healthcare delivery, particularly in communities where access to essential medical services remains a challenge.

He noted that the rehabilitation of the facility reflects the Service’s commitment to complementing government efforts towards improving public health infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life of Nigerians.

He further stated that the Nigeria Customs Service recognises that its responsibilities extend beyond revenue generation, trade facilitation and the suppression of smuggling to include meaningful contributions to the social and economic development of the communities it serves.

He urged members of the community to take ownership of the facility, maintain its infrastructure and utilise it responsibly to ensure its continued benefits to present and future generations.

The Ogunsua of Modakeke who was represented by a member of the Modakeke Traditional Council, Chief Folorunsho Awoyomi expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs and the Nigeria Customs Service for the intervention, describing the rehabilitation of the healthcare facility as a welcome development that would contribute to the well-being of the people.

He acknowledged the importance of partnerships between public institutions and host communities in addressing local needs and improving access to essential services.

Members of the community also expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Customs Service for the gesture, noting that the rehabilitated facility would help bring healthcare services closer to residents and ease some of the challenges associated with accessing basic medical attention.

They called for the effective management and maintenance of the facility to ensure that the community continues to benefit from the intervention.

The commissioning underscores the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with host communities through impactful CSR initiatives, while supporting broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery and promote sustainable community development.
