The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice has described as shocking, vexatious, illegal, reprehensible and contemptuous of the Court of Appeal for the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to continue to parade and recognize Mr. Adekunle Omo-Aje as the Presidential Candidate of the Action Alliance (AA).
At the World Press Conference addressed by its Convener, Comrade James Okoronkwo on Tuesday, the Coalition said: “This act by INEC is not only an assault on the judiciary but a direct threat to our democracy, to the Rule of Law, and to the principles of free, fair and credible elections that INEC is statutorily mandated to protect.”
The Demands:
The Coalition made the following demands:
We call on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, to immediately redress this anomaly and demonstrate respect for the Rule of Law by:
a) Immediately recognizing and publishing the name of Mr. Joseph Oluwadare Fadojoe as the duly elected Presidential Candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) for the 2027 Presidential Election.
b) Withdrawing with immediate effect, the illegal recognition accorded to Mr. Adekunle Omo-Aje as the Presidential Candidate of the Action Alliance.
c) Complying fully and without further delay with the Court of Appeal Judgement that affirmed Mr. Kenneth Udeze as the National Chairman of the Action Alliance.
The Coalition said that failure of INEC to comply with these legitimate demands within a reasonable time, “will leave this Coalition with no other option than to mobilize all civil society groups across the country for a peaceful mass action and to explore all legal options to compel compliance and defend our democracy.
“We believe in the capacity of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, to uphold the sanctity of the judiciary and correct this embarrassing anomaly.”
The Issues:
The Court of Appeal in tandem with the Rule of Law, duly affirmed Mr. Kenneth Udeze as the authentic and legitimate National Chairman of the Action Alliance (AA).
The judgement is valid, subsisting, and binding on all persons and institutions including INEC.
Flowing from that affirmation, the National Executive Committee of the Action Alliance (AA) under the leadership of National Chairman Kenneth Udeze, conducted its legitimate and duly monitored Presidential Primary where Mr. Joseph Oluwadare Fadojoe emerged as the duly elected Presidential Candidate of the Action Alliance for the 2027 Presidential Election.
At Number 6 on the INEC list of 2027 Elections Presidential Candidates and their running mates is Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje / Shehu Hussain for the Action Alliance (AA).
