Chinese President, Xi Jinping and Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima are among world leaders attending the two-day September 12 to 13, 2026 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit hosted by India.
While China is a founding member of BRICS, along with Brazil, Russia, and India, Nigeria officially became a BRICS partner country last year.
Hassan Mohammed, commissioner of the Trade Division at the Consulate General of Nigeria in Shanghai, said the BRICS Plus framework had created more platforms for exchanges and brought Nigeria and China closer together.
VP Shettima wrote on his official Facebook page: “I have arrived in India to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
“The summit is part of Nigeria’s efforts to deepen Bilateral relations, expand trade and investment opportunities, and strengthen cooperation with member and partner countries of the bloc.
“The summit is being held under the theme: Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
