    NEMA Pledges Support To Niger Govt, Disaster Affected Persons Nationwide

    Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mustapha Habib Ahmed on Thursday, assured of the Agency’s continued supports to disaster affected persons nationwide.

    The NEMA Director General said this when he received the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

    The Niger State Deputy Governor visited the Agency to solicit more relief supports for victims of banditry in the State.

    Speaking with the media after meeting with NEMA’s Director General, the Deputy Governor said banditry had led to displacement of no less than 5,000 persons in the State.

    He appreciated the continuous relief supports delivered by NEMA to the State.

    Just like the proverbial Oliver Twist, the Deputy Governor said more were still needed for the displaced persons, especially to cater for their basic needs.

    The Niger State Deputy Governor said he was also at the NEMA Head office to discuss how the State Government and the Agency can work together towards mitigating against likelihood of flood as contained in the 2023 Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook.

    The Director General of NEMA commended the Niger State Government for being alert to the 2023 flood prediction.

    Ahmed said that every necessary actions should be taken to mitigate against anticipated impact of the disaster.

    The DG NEMA was joined in receiving and meeting the Deputy Governor of Niger State by the Director of Planning Research and Forecasting, Dr Onimode Bandele Abdullahi, Director Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Kennedy Mataluwo, Ag Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi Usur and SA to the DG, Mr Idris Abubakar Mohammed.

    Similarly, the Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Secretary to Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu and other officials.
