The National Youth Service Corps has taken another bold initiative to expose Corps Members to financial literacy, stock trading and savings investment.
Caroline Embu, the NYSC’s Director, Information and Public Relations disclosed this in a statement signed on Thursday.
Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu made the move during his visit to the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) in Lagos where he also witnessed the closing gong ceremony.
General Nafiu said the collaboration between NYSC and the Nigerian Capital Market ecosystem would afford Corps Members to understand the concept of stock business.
He said that the partnership was long overdue as it was the right step for the Scheme, having been existing for the past 53 years.
The DG said: “Today we embrace change, a new relationship that will empower our youths with financial literacy that will open door of investment opportunities previously out of their reach.
“This partnership is a commitment to the future by equipping the NYSC to participate in the capital market”, the DG said.
The Chairman, Nigerian Exchange Group, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, who welcomed the Director General to the Nigerian Capital Market assured of the readiness of the group for more collaboration with other market operators.
He lauded the NYSC, describing it as a tool for fostering national unity and youth development through its services to the nation.
He added that there are many financial opportunities in the Nigeria financial ecosystem that the youths can benefit from.
“We seek immense opportunity in exploring collaboration with the NYSC to advance financial literacy among Corps Members across the country”, he stated.
He also said the collaboration with NYSC will increase savings culture and encourage individual participation in the growth of national economy.
Similarly, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigerian Exchange Limited, Mr Jude Chiemeka, said the exchange has more than 323 listed securities.
He informed General Nafiu that the exchange has varieties of options for investors, adding that it is referred to as a frontier market which has enjoyed tremendous goodwill.
He stated further that General Nafiu’s visit was a good start for partnering with the NYSC.
He added that the exchange was in partnership with other renowned stock exchanges across the globe.
