Chief Judge (CJ) of Benue State, Hon. Justice Maurice Ahemba Ikpambese on Thursday, paid glowing tributes to the late Barrister Iyorcugh Igbayue, saying throughout his illustrious career as a Lawyer, Igbayue consistently demonstrated his commitment to justice, fairness and the rule of law.
Justice Ikpambese said this during the special Court session in honour of the deceased Barr. Igbayue at the premises of the High Court of Justice in Makurdi, Benue State, where the body laid in state.
Recall that the very sad news of the passing away of the legal icon on June 8, 2023, at the age of 67 was announced by his widow, Mrs. Dooyum Igbayue on her Facebook page.
CJ Ikpambese said that the deceased’s tireless advocacy and unwavering determination had earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, clients and the community alike.
In an address, Maimuna Ikwulono Esq., the first female Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Makurdi branch, said that by the death of Barr. Iyorcugh Igbayue, the NBA had lost a real Barman.
Highpoint of the Court session was the public viewing of the body of the deceased Barr Igbayue by colleagues.
From the Court, the body was conveyed to the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Nenger in Makurdi where a requiem mass was officiated by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Thadeus Gbor.
The body was later taken to the deceased’s country home at Ihugh in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State for the wake keep and internment.
On Friday, June 23, 2023, Parish Priest of the Immaculate Conception Rectory, Kiishi, Mbawuar, Vandeikya, Rev. Fr. Reuben Awaji conducted the funeral service.
At about 9:40am, late Barrister Iyorcugh Igbayue was laid to rest amid tears and crying from family and friends.
