26 suspects including 10 kidnappers, three gun runners and 13 cultists have been arrested in Nasarawa State by the Police operatives, while 497 amunitions were recovered.
The Nasarawa State Police Command on Wednesday said this at the presentation of recent achievements recorded under the Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki M. Baba aimed for a safe and secure Nasarawa.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Ramhan Nansel presented the score card to the media on behalf of the CP, Maiyaki Baba at the Police Command Headquarters, Shendam road, Lafia.
Here are some of the achievements recorded for the period under review:
Arrest Of Notorious Bandits And Recovery Of Firearm And Ammunition:
On 30/4/2023 at about 1600hrs, while acting based on credible information, Police operatives attached to Awe Division arrested the trio of Jibrin Idris 20yrs of Doka village, Kaduna State, Manu Kauji 20 years and Tukur Sule 20 years both males of Tunga village, Awe LGA where one hundred and fifty-five (155) rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed that they were sent by one Idris of Katsina State to purchase the ammunition at Ibi, Taraba State, before they were arrested at Tunga village, Awe LGA.
A follow up Investigation by men of the command’s Anti kidnapping unit led to the arrest of Idris Abdullahi ‘M’ of Kankara, Katsina State (the father of one of the suspects earlier arrested) where one AK47 riffle, one magazine and three hundred and twenty-three (323) rounds of 7.62x39mm and fourteen (14) rounds of 7.62x51mm live ammunition (total-492 rounds) were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.
Investigation is ongoing at State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia.
Arrest Of Suspected Kidnappers And Rescue Of Kidnap Victims:
On 23/05/2023 at about 1600 hours, based on credible intelligence, a team of Mobile Policemen attached to Operation Restore Peace stormed a kidnappers’ hideout located at Ambaka village of Farin Ruwa Development Area, Wamba LGA, rescued two kidnap victims and arrested five kidnappers namely: Sale Adamu 34 years, Idi Halilu 27 years, Abdul Sale 20 years, Mallam Gambo 48 years, and Goma Halilu 20 years all males of Ambaka village.
The suspects have confessed to be responsible for series of kidnapping at Ambaka village and environs. Investigation is ongoing.
Arrest Of Suspected Cultist And Recovery Of Fire Arm And Ammunition:
On 21/5/2023 at about 1620hrs, based on a tip-off, Police detectives attached to Masaka Division raided a hideout of Neo-Black Knowledge cult group located at Koya Village, Masaka, Karu LGA where the following suspects namely: Michael Felix, Gabriel Seth, Gideon Gambo, Michael Dauda, Sule Angel, Adingu Favor, Phillip Joseph, Adeboye Babatunde, Victor Abire, Patrick Joe, Ambrose Thankgod, Israel Joel and Usman Jibrin were arrested.
A thorough search was conducted on them where one locally fabricated pistol, three (3) 9mm live ammunition, two (2)axes, and dangerous charms were recovered from them as exhibits.
ARREST OF A SUSPECTED CRIMINAL AND RECOVERY
OF FIREARM/AMMUNITION
On 03/05/2023 at about 1000hrs, a complaint of cattle rustling and criminal intimidation was lodged at ‘A’ Division, Lafia.
Upon receipt of the report, a manhunt was launched to arrest the suspect.
Consequently, one Dahiru Aliyu ‘m’ of Agyaragu Tofa was arrested and subsequently confessed to the commission of the crime.
A search warrant was executed at his residence where one locally fabricated revolver pistol, three (3) rounds of 7.62X39mm live ammunition, and one military short knicker were recovered as exhibit.
Arrest Of Notorious Kidnappers
And Recovery Of Fire Arm:
On 3/05/2023 at about 1500 hours Mobile Police personnel attached to 38 PMF Akwanga while on special duty at Agon 1 Village, Obi LGA intercepted one Muhammed Ahmadu ‘M’ 28 years of Akurba Village, Lafia who was suspected to be carrying a firearm neatly concealed in a mat.
A systematic search was conducted on the goods he was carrying on his motorcycle where one AK47 rifle and two rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition were recovered from the suspect as exhibits.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect belonged to a kidnapping syndicate that is responsible for some act of kidnapping around Shabu and some parts of Lafia metropolis.
The suspect has been charged to court and remanded in prison custody.
Attempt To Commit An Offence With Gun Running:
On 15/5/2023 at about 1400 hours based on a tip off, Police operatives attached to the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit arrested the duo of Gabriel Sati ‘M’ 41 years of Dokan Kasuwa Village, Quan’pan LGA, Plateau State and Omage Iliya ‘M’ 27 years of Kofan Liman, Assakio who conspired among themselves, went to Assakio to purchase three (3) AK47 riffles at the rate of one million, one hundred thousand naira each.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed that, they were contracted by one Omage Obenu ‘M’ of Assakio to source for the weapons, they negotiated with the seller before nemesis caught up with them at the point they planned to meet and seal the deal.
The suspects have made useful statements, and investigation is ongoing.
All suspects will be charged to court for prosecution upon conclusion of investigation.
