    2025 Flood Response:NEMA DG Makes Presentation To National Economic Council Meeting, Secures N10Bn Funding

    The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, was invited to the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, 31st July 2025, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

    Manzo Ezekiel, NEMA’s Head of Press Unit disclosed this in a statement signed on Friday.

    The meeting, chaired by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, featured a presentation by the DG NEMA on the current status of flood incidents across the country.

    Mrs. Zubaida Umar also provided a detailed briefing on NEMA’s flood preparedness strategy, ongoing risk assessments, early warning dissemination, and coordinated response mechanisms being implemented in anticipation of the 2025 flood season.

    Following her presentation and subsequent deliberations on the urgent need for proactive measures, the NEC approved the release of intervention funds to support nationwide flood mitigation and response efforts.

    The approved disbursements are as follows:

    1. N3 billion each to the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT);

    2. N1.5 billion to the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning;

    3. N1.5 billion to the Federal Ministry of Environment;

    4. N1.5 billion to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation;

    5. N10 billion to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

    Mrs. Zubaida Umar expressed profound appreciation to the Vice President and members of the Council for the timely and strategic intervention.

    She reaffirmed NEMA’s unwavering commitment to the efficient, transparent, and accountable utilization of the allocated funds, in line with the Agency’s mandate to safeguard lives and livelihoods during emergencies.

    She further assured that NEMA will continue to work closely with State Governments, relevant Ministries, Agencies and partners to ensure a well-coordinated, timely, and people-centered flood response across the nation.
